THE GOVERNMENT OF UGANDA OWES THE SHs 143 BILLION IT LENT TO YOUTH AND WOMEN-THE DEBTORS ARE NOT AVAILABLE

The Government of Uganda is still confused about the redemption of the shs143 billion it has borrowed from youth and women.

The Ministry of Gender has said it is aimed at redemption, because many youths who were given the money disappeared while others were killed by businesses.

The funds were led by the youth in the Youth Livelihood Program as women are borrowed from the Uganda Women Empowerment Program.

Government auditor General Edward Akol in his report revealed that of the 131 billion debt that the government owed to youth and women in the 2023/2024 fiscal year, the Ministry of Human Settlements was able to rescue only Rw 8 billion.

Aggrey Kibenge, the chief organizer of the Ministry of Human Settlements, said the ministry found itself in the search for the youths who received the money.

Agrey Kibenge said that even many projects where the money was made died, but that although they are trying to owe them, there is too little hope.

Currently, the government’s funds in the Youth Livelihood Fund and Uganda Women Empowerment Program UWEP cut it and take it to the Parish Development Model programme.

Agrey Kibenge said the cut in the funds has given the Ministry of Gender the problem to monitor them, because the fund that was set up to monitor is one of the ones that were removed.

Fortunate Rose Nantongo MP for Kyotera district and the opposition Minister for Gender, said the weak foundation government starts these projects is the cause of the projects to toggle, the taxpayer and lose money that would have been doing things for the country.
