Archbishop Kazimba Condemns Violence and Brutality in NRM Primaries

Church of Uganda has condemned acts of violence and brutality marred in the National Resistance Movement (NRM) primaries that is yet to be concluded these months.

The Archbishop Dr. Stephen Kazimba Mugalu while launching the 9th East African preaching  Convention said that there’s need for confession and reconciliation for politicians who have wronged others so as to have a better Uganda for the next generation.

He said that Uganda is for people that God created to stay in it regardless of the tribe and religious groupings.

One person in Rwemiyaga country was killed just before elections took place while scores were injured as tension between supporters of incumbent Theodora Ssekikubo and Rt. Brig. Gen. Rwasande the main two contenders for NRM flag exchanged verbal artillery.

“ We need confession and reconciliation to heal the political wounds inflicted on others such that our country can go forward, we should be tolerant of one another because we can’t all think alike as far as politics is concerned.’’ Dr. Kazimba said.

He also revealed that Church of Uganda has organized a revival convention aimed at spiritual reconstruction, resurrection and recommitment to Christ such that people in the region can get healed.

Bishop Gadi Akanjuna of Kigezi Diocese that host region for the revival convention said that this gathering that is organized every after ten years  goes beyond boundaries of Uganda, ethnicity and tribal groupings  and this explains why it’s for the whole region of EAC.

“Preparation for the 9th EAC Revival Convention are in high gear and we have already booked hotels where high ranking church ministers will sleep and a total UGX 710m have been earmarked but we need  financial assistance from the congregation and well-wishers to contribute towards the cause.’’ Bishop Akanjuna explained.

According to Bishop Akanjuna, the five days convention will attract a minimum of 15,000 participants from the region and outside the continents for instance from California- USA and fifteen bishops from Uganda have confirmed their attendance. Kenya will send 52 delegates while other countries like Tanzania, Rwanda, Dr. Cong and Burundi are yet to communicate the total number of they will sent.

The former Prime Minister Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda who is the chairperson of the organizing committee said that that has last for ninety years has helped in the improvement of social issues because over the years it has been used to mobilize the locals on hygiene and sanitary habits and this has help in sorting out sicknesses among the locals which used to occur due to poor hygiene.

He also said that such gathering defines the coronial borders that defines Africa and helps to transform the lives of people because it enhance discipline and open ways of doing things.

The convention which will commence on 20t-h August, and end on 24th, 2025 will also have a health camp among other activities where participants will receive medical services.
