Captain Mike Mukula, the incumbent NRM Vice Chairman for Eastern Region seeking re-election, has unveiled an ambitious plan to manufacture dairy products in the region.
Addressing residents and NRM delegates of Katakwi district, Mukula highlighted his vision for industrializing the area through projects such as a dairy plant, which would not only create jobs but also boost the local economy.
“I am going to build in my group of companies the first dairy plant which will add value to our milk,” Mukula said. He noted that the region’s lack of traditional exports like tea, coffee, and tobacco presents an opportunity to focus on other areas, such as dairy production.
Mukula’s industrial ventures include a multi-billion shilling syringes manufacturing factory in Namanve and a proposed coffee processing plant in Bugisu Cooperative Union. These projects showcase his dedication to value addition and economic growth in the region.
The NRM leader lauded the people of Katakwi for their continued support of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, saying, “I urge you to support President Museveni because he is on the correct line.” Mukula emphasized the need for the region to change its economic fortunes, noting that “our people are still very poor.”
Mukula also highlighted some of the great achievements in the health sector, including the renovation and upgrading of the Soroti referral hospital. “Our main aim now is to see to it that Soroti University of Science and Technology becomes a national teaching hospital like Mulago hospital,” he said.
In terms of security, Mukula reminded the people of Katakwi of his role in creating the Arrow Boys, a militia that helped defend the region against LRA rebels. “The President recruited 16 Battalion and those 16 Battalions, I came here, some of you were seeing me giving you the people of Katakwi guns to defend yourselves. I never abandoned you,” he said.
Mukula concluded by appealing to the people of Katakwi to support him in his bid for re-election, saying, “When the time comes to stand with the right idea and correct direction, stand with Mukula.”
