Tragedy as a family of six people perishes in fire outbreak that occurred at Bukasa, Kirinya in Bweyogerere, and Wakiso District in the early morning hours of Thursday, 29th May 2025.
The incident has been confirmed by Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire in a message he conveyed in the WhatsUp platform for Kampala crime reporters.
‘’ The Police at Kira Division are currently investigating a tragic fire outbreak that occurred in the early hours of Thursday, 29th May 2025, at Bukasa, Kirinya, in Bweyogerere, Wakiso District.’’ Owoyesigyire’s statement partly reads.
According to the statement still, it is alleged that at approximately 3:00 AM, a loud blast was heard from the residence of one Ssekabila Fred, aged 45.
He said that concerned neighbors rushed to offer assistance; however, the fire had already engulfed the whole house, making rescue efforts extremely difficult. Police were alerted, and the Fire Prevention and Rescue Services team responded swiftly, successfully containing the fire and preventing it from spreading to adjacent properties.
Upon arrival, a team of investigators was introduced to the scene also and during their inspection, they sadly discovered six bodies in the debris. The deceased have been identified as:
The deceased where identified as, Gonja Winniefred (Mother) Nabuya Gloria, 20 Nakakira Peace, 16 years Nebula Briyan, 7 years Nakamya Helena, 9 Ssekabila Fred 45 (Father).
The bodies have been transported Mulago to City Mortuary for postmortem examination after which they will be handed to their relatives for burial
Owoyesigyire said ,while the exact cause of the fire is yet to be established, preliminary investigations, including statements from Ssekabila’s friends, suggest that he may have been exhibiting signs of suicidal behavior.
‘’However, this line of inquiry remains under investigation and is yet to be confirmed.’’ He said.
