The nominations of the 2026 general elections of Presidential candidates and tallying of votes will take place at the Electoral Commission’s new spacious permanent home.
This has been revealed by the commission’s Chairman Justice Simon Mugenyi Byabakama at the land breaking ceremony at Lubowa in Lweza parish in Kajjansi town council, Wakiso District.
The Prime Minister Rt.Hon. Robina Nabbanja who presided over the function said now that Uganda has under gone 6 general electoral cycles is a clear indication of democracy in the country.
“I am proud to be part of this process of acquiring a permanent home for our electoral commission which I initiated,” Rt.Hon.Nabbanja said.
She further asserted that article 60 of National Constitution requires establishment of a permanent home for the electoral commission and acquire one is a significant milestone for government although it has been long overdue.
The ‘Majegere’ woman also said, “ the electoral commission 10 acres facility after its completion will be a centre of excellence and a model in election management in Africa and globally. She also said it will reduce the financial burden which is huge constrain on the National Budget.’’

“We have been working in a harsh environment in our rented home in Industrial Area because when it rains it gets flooded and mud becomes worse.’’ Justice Byabakama explained.
Justice Byabakama also said that the facility will cost a hopping UGX 150 billion and the commission have so far received 26 billion from the Ministry of Finance and this have been given to National Housing which took over the construction of the magnificent facility.
The project construction will take maximum of 24 months and it will have a conference hall and a hotel among other facilities.
