The National Unity Platform (NUP) party has rebuked the National Electoral Commission for putting 2026 general elections nomination guidelines  which they say are exorbitant and exploitative.

John Mary Ssebuufu a commissioner on the Party’s  Election Management Committee expressed his concern on fees charged by Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) and National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) while addressing reporters at the Kavule based NUP Headquarters.

Last we EC issued its roadmap for the forth coming general elections in which it also revealed guidelines for candidates interested in vying for the different positions and among these, parliamentary aspirants are required to verify their academic credentials with either UNEB or NCHE depending on the level of qualification one wishes to present to the Commission.

Ssebuufu said that his party  aspirants alleged that UNEB charges UGX 600,000 while NCHE charges UGX 2,000,000 for verifying S6 certificates and degree credentials as well as qualifications attained from Univerities outside the country.

“These high fees charged are intended to eliminate people who can’t afford.  If we had a good system the fees would be at least between UGX 10,000- 20,000.” He stressed.

Alex Lwanyaga also a Commission on the NUP’s electoral body also exercised his concern about the high fees , where he reasoned that if an asipirant verified his or her papers during the 2021 general election period,  there would be no need to repeat the exercise because the bodies which dis it are still the same and around.
