Traders importing goods from the different destinations have gotten relief and their container containing merchandise that were held by Uganda Revenue Authority have been finally released on the orders of the Prime Minister Robina Nabbajja.

This follows the closer of shops by the traders especially those dealing in garments which subsequently caused the leader of government business to call two meetings at the directives of President Museveni.

The first meeting was conducted at Uganda Bureau of Statistics Hall in Kampala which meeting was attended by traders together with KACITA leaders, Minister of State for Trade Gen Mbasu Mbadi and URA Commissioner General Mr. Rusoke Rujoki.

In that meeting were the traders pinned the Commissioner General for deliberating failing their business through under methods of deliberately delaying their containers and overvaluing their merchandize.

In the second meeting the prime minister ordered URA boss to release the containers, but the issue of Chinese who come as investors but turn to be wholesalers and retailers wasn’t resolved but a committee was put in place to investigate the matter.

On the issue of landlords exploiting tenants through overcharging them electricity with exorbitant fees Rt. Hon. Prime Minister said this will soon stop because the landlords have been ordered to give each room a separate Yak Meter.

“ We have put a committee in place to oversee the issue of alleged investors especially the Chinese who come here as investors for industries and end up doing wholesale and retail trading but we should be conscious because we ratifies to the international bilateral trade agreements,’’ Rt. Hon. Nabbanja explained.

The committee comprises of three traders, officials from KCCA, Immigration, URA, and UNBS and will be headed by Minister of State for Trade Gen. Mbasu Mbadi.

Suleiman Matovu KACITA Deputy Spokesperson said that the resolutions reached upon will help solve conflicts marred in trade.
