Production of Renewed National IDs Commenced , NIRA to Register Citizens in Diaspora

The National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) has started issuance of cards the first people who applied for renewal will start picking them as soon as they are dispatched to the respective places they did the renewal exercise.

While addressing reporters at Naguru Police Headquarters on Monday 14 2025, NIRA Registrar Claire Ollama revealed, production of the National ID Cards started last week and about 100,000 have already been produced.

“ Production of cards started last week and we have so far produced over 100,000, we are yet to dispatch them to different parts of the country. People are now receiving notification alerting them from where they are picking them,’’ Ollama said.

She however asked the citizens to remain calm and patient as NIRA continue to send notifications to those whose are ready for picking.

“ On behalf of NIRA I ask the public to be patients as we continue to send messages on where they should pick their National ID cards. Ashe message appear on your phone, it will tell you where you are picking it from.’’

Ollama also retaliated that Thursdays and Fridays are dedicated to children and NIRA on such days will be taking the cameras to schools therefore, she urges the public to remain calm during those days.

She also said that registration for Ugandans in Diaspora will commence in August this very year and NIRA will start with Middle East specifically with Qatar and Dubai.

According NIRA Executive Director Rosemary Kisembo, this six months exercise is targeting a total of 17 million people.
