Uganda Police in collaboration with the sister security have recovered three guns, 16 rounds of ammunitions and from Karamoja Sub-region that cattle rustlers have been using to terrorize the area.
This was announced revealed by the Police spokesperson ACP. Rusoke Kituuma while speaking to journalists in the weekly security briefing on Monday at the forces Naguru Headquarters.
Rusoke also said that six suspects were arrested, 108 livestock recovered, while 1175 cattle and 8,923 goats were verified and 9,610 bags of illegal charcoal were also impounded and handed to National Forest Authority.
“ We have registered a success story for the last four years and rustling has significantly reduced. Since 2022, a total of 1,354 firearms and 10,147 ammunitions have been recovered while 4,727 suspects arrested, 460,889 livestock also recovered and 8,962 jerriycans of illicit alcohol impounded,’’ ACP. Rusoke said.
Meanwhile UPDF arrested eight suspects during the ongoing recruitment exercise in Kitugumu Municipality and these were handed to police for further investigation leading to prosecution.
The suspects are identified as David Okulutu, Alfred Byaruhanga, JohnBosco Oryema, Philip Okema and Richard Kidega, these presented forged academic papers while , Isaac Toraci, Samuel Okema and Joel Kitara are facing corruption charges because they tried to bribe a UPDF Officer in charge of recruitment in the area allegedly with a cash bribe of UGX 900,000.
