Tanga attacks NRM Election Tribunal for Nullifying his Victory

By George Bukenya

Despite rejecting the decision of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) election disputes Tribunal, Collins Tanga has said that he will participate in the re-run whose date is yet to be announced by the party’s electoral commission.

This follows the tribunal’s nullifying of his victory as the party’s chairperson of the Youth League and while addressing reporters at Makerere University Convocation Offices on Wednesday, Tanga described the ruling as unfair, inconsistent, and was based on public opinion as opposed to facts.

He said he was disappointed that the tribunal acknowledged there was no evidence of vote rigging  as was alleged by his main rival, yet still went ahead to  nullify the results of the election that saw thousands of youth turn up to choose their leaders.

“ Iam still wondering why my victory was over turned by the tribunal yet member of suchbody agree there was no proof that I rigged the election, they based on conflict of interest. That is not justice,’’ Tanga said, adding that the decision seemed to punish him for being the son of Dr. Tanga Odoi the chairman of NRM Electoral Commission.

“We are going turn up strong and we will again get a huge victory, after which we will start canvassing votes for President Museveni,’’

Tanga  said that his father didn’t participate in the process that gave him the victory he only came in at the last minute to announce the winner because the results had already been got.
