UBOS Resumes Baseline Education Census

The Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) has resumed the country wide the baseline Education Census today in the Northern districts of Guru.

According to the Bureau’s spokesperson Didas Okoth, the survey is aimed at getting findings that will help make informed education policies that are geared towards enhancing the education sector.

Among the key issues that enumerators sent to record among others, teachers education level,learners details, numbers of classrooms, equipment.

A total of 1,100 field data collectors have been deployed by UBOS across the country to complete the data collection exercise for the Baseline Education Census, 2025.

Okoth said that the exercise will run from October 27 to October 30, 2025 and is targest all government primary schools in the sub-region of Acoli, Bunyoro,

According to UBOS, the exercise will run from October 27 to October 30, 2025, targeting all government primary schools in the sub-regions of Acholi, Bunyoro, Karamoja, Kigezi, Rwenzori, Tooro, and West Nile. The initiative resumes following the end of the industrial action by government primary school teachers that had disrupted the third term.

The census aims to gather detailed data on learners, teachers, non-teaching staff, and school infrastructure. Information collected will include learners’ names, ages, nationalities, identification numbers, and any special needs; as well as teachers’ qualifications and institutional details such as operational status, license, and location.

Didacus Okoth the UBOS Spokesperson urged head teachers, local government authorities, and the public to cooperate fully with the enumerators.

“This exercise is critical for improving the management and planning of Uganda’s education sector. We appeal to all stakeholders to support our teams as they collect accurate and timely data,” Okoth noted.

The census results are expected to guide policy decisions and support preparations for the upcoming Primary Seven examinations scheduled to begin on November 4, 2025.

He exercise that was flagged off in April by the Minister for Education Janet Museveni hit a snug when Arts teachers especially those in primary went on strike at the beginning of third term.
