UPC President Akena Accuses Museveni, Decampaigns him

Uganda People’s Congress (UPC)party president Jimmy Akena accuses President Museveni for influencing Electoral Commission to deny him a chance of appearing on the 2026-2031 ballot paper.

Akena was blocked from nominations following a court ruling that declared him occupying the office of party president illegally.

The UPC President told reporters at his party’s  headquarters in Kampala on Wednesday that he is fighting to be on the ballot paper and wants his supporters to show solidarity by writing his name on the ballot paper when the vote.

He decampaigned president Museveni and urged his supporters to vote any of the other Presidential candidates apart from Yoweri Museveni Kaguta whom he accuses of peddling in UPC matters thus influencing the Electoral Commission nomination activities.

“Don’t vote Yoweri Museveni but you can chose from any of the remaing candidates. If you still don’t what you can even write my name on the ballot paper,” Aken urged his supporters.

A political analyst who preferred to remain anonymous told this website that after losing the Buganda region, President Museveni wanted to consolidate the Northern region but Aken was a threat because he has a huge influence in the Lango Sub-region and could have influenced his denial to appear on the ballot paper.

Akena’s influence couldn’t be under estimated because this was evidenced in the two by elections, that of the dokolo formerly occupied by the late Cecilia Ogwalo was worn by the UPC candidate.

That voters in Lango Sub-region could be convinced to vote for NRM and Museveni due to lack of a candidate from their region.
