Police Constable Shot inline of Duty, Suspect Rescued from Angry Mob

Police warn people in places with huge crowds to rekindle vigilance and start routine checking of people entering such spaces which are always congested to avoid terror consequences.

The police spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke revealed that ADF rebel group is still active and as of now security can’t predict when it will can out its attacks on people and warned leaders of places which attract crowed to revive the vigilance through using standing operating procedures.

He made the warning while addressing reporters in the weekly police briefing on crime at Naguru Police Headquarters today and told people working and gathering in crowded areas to always be on alert to avoid the eventualities.

A suspected ADF last week tried to enter Kalerwe Market in Kawempe Division but due to intelligence net and vigilance, security managed to put him out of action before causing tragedy.

“The Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) still exists and active. On behalf of Police I warn the public to rekindle their vigilance and start again to check thoroughly the luggage of people coming and entering the huge crowded  places like taxi and bus parks, markets and churches“ Kituuma warned.

Meanwhile Kituuma also warned the public to stop attacking police while performing its duty saying this will not be tolerated.

This warning has come at time when in April this year a police constable Suleiman Chemonges was killed  under ‘mob Justice’ actions  in Ibanda District during a burial ceremony when he had gone to arrest a suspect.

Kituuma revealed that on 20 June in Witta Village,  Butangala Parish in Mayuge District a suspect a one Alex Kuha and his brother attack police with pang while carrying out lawful arrest. Unfortunately a police constable was in his ankle accidently while the suspect was also shot in the leg during the scuffle and his brother managed to escape.

In Buko District, swam Sub-s-county, still on June 20th 2025, a similar incident also happened when police had gone to rescue a suspect from the angry mob, in the scuffle again when police was trying to rescue the suspect one police officer was accidently shot in the knee while one other person was also shot in the leg but police managed to rescue the suspect.

“Its so unfortunate even the leaders still believe in ‘mob justice’ on suspects.  Imagine an LC II chairperson telling police to leave the suspect to be worked on by the mob, this lawlessness will not be tolerated by Police.’’ It’s risky, he forewarned.  

The police’s mouth piece admitted that police need to continue sensitizing the public about the risky venture of taking the law in hands if the vice is to crackdown such incidences.
