KCCA, COLAS Sign Deal to Upgrade over 127 kilometres of City Roads

Goodby to potholes as KCCA a landmark agreement with UK-based global infrastructure firm, COLAS to kick-start the Kampala City Roads and Bridges Upgrading Project (KCRBUP), the project will see the rehabilitation and upgrade of 127 kilometres of city roads.

The £ 250 milliom Commercial Agreement was signed by the  Authorities Director in charge of legal Frank Rusa and Executive Director Sharifah Buzeki amidist the attendency of Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago, , Minister for Kampala Minsa Kabanda and KCCA Speaker Zaharah Luyirika on July 10, 2025

There have been a huge public out cry from the people who live and those working in Kampala over potholes and some have even lost lives others properties due to accidents caused by such but after signing an agreement with an experienced company, Sharifah Buzeki, KCCA Executive director says that people of Kampala will now get a relief and say goodby to pothoes.

This partnership is geared towards transforming Kampala through opening up the city to enhance access, reduce congestion with is associated problems such crime and health menace . The project is estimated at £250m and will be funded by United Kingdom Export Finance (UKEF). It will be implemented over the next three to four years starting this year.

The project is funded by the United Kingdom Export Finance, COLAS will partner with the local contractors to build capacity and transfer skills in modern road construction in line with Uganda’s policy of Buy Uganda, Build Uganda. It also includes the installation of solar-powered street lighting, modern drainage systems, sidewalks , landscaping, bus stops and cycle lanes.
