Despite Serving in NRM government as Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Democratic Party (DP) President Norbert Mao as maintained his stance to contest for the highest Office in 2026 general elections on his party’s flag.
The eloquent minister sounds very assertive on the party’s strength while defending his leadership and the legacy of the oldest political party in the country, insisting that DP remains a strong force to reckon with and central to Uganda’s political arena despite the internal bickering.
While speaking to reporters at the party headquarters along Balintuma road, Rubaga Division, Mao said that DP’s resilience is a clear indication that the party is still strong and everybody is always talking about it even president Museveni himself. He said that those who are in the party to disagree have now learnt lesson that DP has hard-core leadership.
“ We are still a strong party despite distracters who want to weaken us by making false allegations and ruling to court whenever they get a disagreement with the leaders. We still win them from there. I am the most sued party president in Africa if not in the world, battled over 60 court cases but won them,’’ Mao said.
He further said,“ the DP is in a good shape and political agitators are coming up to get its flag in many parts of the country.’’
Moa also attack the Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago who has just been nominated to contest again to defend his position who he said for the last 15 years he has been at the helm of Kampala leadership but failed to tackle the real challenges that are affecting the city dwellers.
“ Lukwago is a chief mourner; mourning for years cannot resurrect the dead person. Kampala needs leaders who have an agenda for all people but not lamenters and mourners,’’ he said.
“ When DP was leading, Kampala City had space for the poor people now mourners do not have space for them, Mao further said.’’
He said that DP has voices from City traders under their KACITA umbrella, bodaboda, and street vendors who he says will vote for change of political leadership at KCCA.
According to Mao, the party will release a complete list of candidates carrying its flag for local and parliamentary positions in about one week to come.
