NETA-Uganda: All Victim Traders should be Compensated

National Entrepreneurs and Traders Association chairman Dr.Tadious Musoke Nagenda has asked government to consider NIN numbers and all traders  who were affected by the floods during the compensation exercise.

He said that although a shop is ownership by one person who pays rent but there’re other Traders who sub-rent from that individual and if government considers only people with rent receipts others who lost their merchandise are bound to lose.

“It’s hard to find a shop occupied by one person because of the high rental cost, therefore we want all occupants in shops that were affected by floods to be compensated,” Dr. Nagenda urged.

It’s rumoured that government is earmaring to pay each flood victim a uniform UGX 10M but NETA-Uganda is saying this would be unfair because the loss suffered wasn’t uniform.

However when the Prime Minister Robina Nabbanja engaged the trader after the flood incident, she told their leaders that will be giving them just a condolence fee although she didn’t indicate how much exactly will be given to an individual.

In a related development,  the National Entrepreneurs and Traders Association (NETA-Uganda) move to award the best performing entities in 2025.

This was announced by NETA- Uganda’s founding chairman Dr. Musoke Nagenda in a press conference held at Yiga Chambers in Kampala today.

Nagenda said that the annogural awards ceremony is aimed at encouraging especially government entities to ensure better service delivery as well as recognising and celebrating excellence in various sectors, promoting qaulity and innovation in the business community.

He also said that the awards ceremony will also serve as a fundraising drive for cancer and other non- communicable diseases awareness campaign geared towards addressing such health challenges in Uganda.

NETA-Uganda general secretary Samuel Kyambadde said that his organisation through such awards will mobilize Ugandan consumers to appreciate locally manufactured goods and services as a way of promoting the Buy- Uganda, Build-Uganda (BUBU) policy.

He also retaliated that if government doesn’t come out quickly and give a hand to Traders who where affected by floods will also be lossing taxes and  unemployment will set in to the victims.
