Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP) have started hunting the suspected killer of a 22-year old waitress who was found dead in a room in Mukalazi Zone, Bukoto I Parish, Nakawa Division.
According to KMP spokesperson SP. Racheal Kawala, the deceased is identified as Jovia Namuwulya , who was residing in the area at the time of her death.
Speaking to reporters in a weekly security press briefing, Kawala said, the incident allegedly occurred between midnight and 6am on August 20, 2026 at the premises where Namuwulya lived.
“On 20 August 2026, the caretaker of the premises received a telephone call from relatives of the deceased inquiring about Jovia, as she was reportedly not responding to their calls. The caretaker together with the deceased’s sister, went to the room where Jovia was staying. Upon arrival, they found the room locked. On looking through the window, they observed blood stains inside the room. They subsequently accessed the room and found Jovia’s lifeless body lying in a pool of blood,” Kawala revealed.
She further, explained that Namuwulya rented the room seven months ago and three months later, she received a visitor who later was identified as Rose Turindamukama, who later began staying with her in the same room.
Kawala also said, when Namuwulya’s room was broken into and her body found, Turindamukama was nowhere to be seen.
“Her friend, Turindamukama Rose, was nowhere to be seen and is being suspected to be in connection with the incident,” Kawala told the reporters.
Police have since commenced investigations leading to the circumstance under which Namuwulya was murdered while hunting for her former room met Turindamukama’s whereabout because she is allegedly the first suspect and could be having information linking to the murderer.
According to SP Kawala, the body of the deceased was taken to City Mortuary, Mulago, for post-mortem examination as investigation continue.
However, police say the motive of the killing is yet to be ascertained as investigations into the murder continue, asking members of the public with information on the whereabouts of Turindamukama to provide it.
Meanwhile, a total of 389 suspected criminals were arrest between 18-23rd August, 2026 country wide in the routine operations aimed at dismantling criminal gangs and curb down crimes.
Police spokesperson ACP Rusoke Kituuma who also addressed the same media gathering said, the arrests were prompted by public outcry and public interagency thus prompting Police with the help of local leaders, community vigilantes and other security sister agencies to carry out operations.
Kituuma said that drug and narcotic selling and phone snacking gang points were dismantled and the culprits arrested and are in police custody pending court committal.
“After arrests we take them to our respective stations, screen out those whom which this are not suspects upon interrogation and release them on bond,’’ Rusoke said.
The arrests occurred in Kabalagala- Katogo and Ggaba where 48 were arrested, in Mbarara 3 were found with a cocktail of drugs. The seven arrest in Luweero- Kasana market had knives and head shocks , Arua (44), Old Kampala- Musajjalumbwa, Kawaala and Namungoona (43), Buikwe(08), Aswa WestNile region(14), Nabweru- Kazo, Lugoba and Bambu (82,), Amuria-Buketi market(14), and Entebbe Division-Abayita(11) and in Gulu East Division (33).
