NUP Surrender Three Seats to NRM in Kampala

Opposition lost three Kampala seats to the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) as two time loser, minister for Kampala Metropolitan Affairs Minsa Kabanda trounced NUP’s Secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya, while Madina Nsereko who had contest four times in Kawempe South on NRM ticket without succeeding also piped Bob Wine’s elder brother Fred Nyanzi and and Veteran Politician come lawyer Fred Ruhind won Nakawa East seat for NRM.

 Kabanda garned 22,332 votes, defeating National Unity Platform (NUP) Secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya, who polled 18,242 votes.  Alliance for National Transformation candidate Agaba Muzoora managed to secure only 182 votes, while other contenders included businessman Abraham Luzzi and Uganda Boxing Federation President Moses Muhangi, among others.

While addressing reporters immediately after being declared winner, Kabanda thanked the electorate and described the outcome as a reflection of persistence and sustained grassroots engagement.

“I want to first start by appreciating the people of Kampala Central for entrusting me to represent their voice in Parliament. The journey has not been easy, as Kampala Central is big and I have been competing with prominent figures, but I am grateful to God who has led me through,” Kabanda said.

In Rubaga South,two time contestant Eugenia  Nasolo(NUP) beat eight other contestants including incumbent Aloysius Mukasa hands down  on 35,366 votes against only 1,837, while her fellow party member  Abubaker Kawalya trounced NRM’s Singh Katongole his closest challenger on 30,589 votes against 9,526 votes. Nalukoola Luyimbazi trounced NRM’s Faridah Nambi in Kawempe North a few months after beating her in he constituency’s By-election.

Leader of opposition Joel Ssenyonyi and seasoned lawyer Nalukoola Luyimbazi won Nakawa West and Kawempe North respectively.
