The Minister for Energy and Mineral Development Dr. Monica Musenera explained constant power outages as she apologise to Ugandans.
Minister Musenero says the constant power cuts will continue up to August 8, 2026 as Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited continue to rejuvenate and update the main and sub-stations.
Speaking to reporters at Uganda Media Centre in Kampala, she argued the masses to remain calm and patient since the situation is rather temporary and will go aware after the refurbishment of the power distribution stations.
” On behalf of government I want to apologise to everybody aggrieved by our constant power outages but it’s a necessary inconvenience to you such we can be able to organise the system for better service delivery, ” Dr Musenero explained while apologising.
She further said UEDCL made attemp to communicate to the people in the affected areas but it seems the level of communication wasn’t sufficient thus causing throwing alot of insults and abuses to her and the managers.
” We need to modernise wiring and this requires planned shut down of power for prolonged hours everybody for several weeks. After this electricity supply will be more reliable,” she explained.
According to Dr Musenero the network is also overload which also cause power to go off automatically as away of protecting the infrastructures and consumers.
” Several stations are operating above the designed optimumum level beacuase of increase in the number of users in the different areas and to plan for an increase in supply UEDCL need to invest more in infrastructures’ upgrade so the public should bear with us so that we can organise for better services.
