Ovino Mall original developer, Tirupati Developers drags the interim committee of traders and condominium owners to court accusing them of electing a committee without his consent. This committee was elected following a meeting that attracted all stake holders including the security, traders, locker owners and the children of the original developer.
In the meeting which took place about two months ago, the Deputy RCC in charge of Kampala Central Division Shafic Nsubuga who was accompanied by Old Kampala Police Station DPC Kenneth Massette ordered the traders to elect an interim committee that will ensure that services such security, garbage management, toilet cleaning and electricity are provided well.
Francis Kawooya was elected as the interim chairman, however, Tirupati Developers wasn’t contented with such and he ran to the high court (Land Divison) challenging the origination of the committee contending that it was illegally constituted.
The interim chairman after the court session said that Ovino Mall Developer is against his committee because of intrigue and jealousy because his children who have been running his lockers have been charging illegal fees from other condominium owners.
“ Tirupati children have been charging us UGX 150,000 in the name of management fees for maintenance of the premises including payment for cleaning of toilets, garbage collection, painting the premises but even some toilet outlets where turned into stores, the parking yard was tendered yet other land lords are supposed to use the parking space,’’ Kawooya said.
The Federation of Uganda Traders Association (FUTA) President John Kabanda who is also one of the landlords said that their accuser didnit serve them on time and they asked court to allow them prepare for defence and court registrar Kagoda … gave then until June 19th, 2026 when court will decide on hearing of the case.
Kabanda also informed this news website that developers, having sold the majority of his lockers inform of condominium he seized to have exclusive rights over the control of the said premises.
Tirupati Developers, are the original developers and owners behind the Ovino Market (Ovino Mall) located in Mengo Kisenyi, Kampala.
The original $10 million project was launched in the mid-2000s under a condominium arrangement, with purpose of allowing Ugandans to purchase shops rather than pay rent.
