UPC Party Criticizes Government on New Tax Proposals

Uganda People’s Congress UPC party urges government to quickly expedite the revival of the one Metre Gauge Railway in order to enhance transport systems locally.

This follows Kenya government

 Commissioning of the construction of the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) from Naivasha-Kisumu to Malaba board town.

The Party spokesperson Sharon Arach in the party weekly press briefing criticized government for failing to rejuvenate the local railway lines such as Kasese to Kampala, Kampala- Tororo to Pakwach.

“ Enhance the tax base is not bad as per say but the taxes being collected at the moment to not much with quantity and quality of service delivery in the country in terms of medical care, education to mention but a few,’’ Arach said.

She further said, “ most of the citizens don’t what to take their children to government  schools because of the poor service rendered they do it as a last resort’.

Uganda government proposes to introduce a 5% Capital Gains Tax on non-business asset sale like land, private share, a 15% Withholding tax on gaming pay-outs, and increased excise duties on fuel and sugar.
