NRM Lure Independent MPs for 12th Parliament to Work with it.

Speaker Annet Anita Among speaking to Independent MPs elect at Kyadondo NRM Party Headquarters

National Resistance Movement (NRM) Party lure independent members of parliament elect to the 12th Parliament to work with them.

The Speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon Annet Anita Among who is also the 2nd vice chairperson of NRM today met 30 independent MPs mostly NRM leaning and asked them to work with her party in terms of legislating laws.

She assured them of equal benefits regarding leadership positions and other logistics from government that will be extended to NRM members of parliament.

“ When you agree to work with NRM party in parliament I will get you benefits just like I do to our members. We have slots assigned to independents and I am the dean of independents’’ Among assured those who turned up.

“ We want you to support our bills that government will be fronting to the floor of parliament such that we work in harmony although you are independents. This does not contravene the National Constitution.’’ She further said.

The NRM Director for legal Affairs, Enock Barata also said that when Independents signs a Memorandum of under Standing (MOU), it doesn’t mean that such individuals have joined the ruling party.

He gave them a form to sign as an expression of interest and they will sign the MOU at Kyankwazi retreat in the presence of NRM Chairman President Museveni.

“ The form you are requested to sign is not the MOU but it’s simply an expression of interest to work with NRM Party after that I will compile your list and forward it the Secretary General who will officially invite you to attend the retreat’’ Barata said.

Among the notable ones of those who filled the form are, Charles Ngabirano (Rwampara), Joel Waiswa (Busiki), Teopista Achan (Zombo), Ruth Acan (Serere), Mercy (Youth Western region and Ronald Muhenda (FortPotral ).

Meanwhile the NRM Electoral Commission has announced its call for party members to come and express interest for EALA parliament slots that fell vacant after two of Uganda’s reprentatives joined local politics.

James Kakooza and   Denis Namara where among the nine Uganda’s reprentatives to EALA who term is ending in December 2027. The former was elected to represent the elderly people while the later will be representing Buyaga West constituency in the 12th Parliament respectively.

The chairman of NRM electoral Commission Dr. Tang Odoi said that eligible members can start expressing interest by picking nomination forms from today, Monday 23, 2026 with non refundable fees of UGX 2,000,000.

According to Dr. Tanga other requirements are similar to that of the Ugandan Member of Parliament.
