Balimwezo Sworn in as Lord Mayor Pledge Improve Education, Infrastructure and Sanitation

Ronald Balimwezo Nsubuga has officially been sworn in as the new Lord Mayor of Kampala, pledging accountable, inclusive, and people-centred leadership for the capital city.

The swearing-in ceremony, held at City Hall, attracted political, cultural, religious, and civic leaders, including Israel Kazibwe Kitooke, the Buganda Kingdom Minister for Information and Publicity, and Sharifah Buzeki, Executive Director of the Kampala Capital City Authority.

Balimwezo arrived at the venue escorted by former Leader of Opposition and Nakawa West MP Joel Ssenyonyi, who also serves as spokesperson for the National Unity Platform.

In his acceptance speech, Balimwezo described his victory as a triumph of faith, unity, and resilience, saying many had doubted his ability to defeat more experienced political riv“Sincerely speaking, many did not believe that I would uproot Mr. Eliasson, who was the party leader with experience of over 15 years. He thanked religious and cultural leaders for their prayers, guidance, and encouragement throughout the campaign period, noting that their support gave him strength during difficult moments.

Balimwezo also extended appreciation to his fellow contenders, including Elias Lugado, Moses Kizito, David Adaga, Kevin Masgira, Jonathan, and others, for participating in what he described as a democratic process aimed at improving Kampala.

“Though we may have had different ideas and purposes, we were all united by the common desire to serve our brothers and to see Kampala progress,” he said.

The newly sworn-in Lord Mayor further praised his supporters, volunteers, coordinators, mobilisers, and residents who stood with him throughout the campaign.

“Your sacrifice, resilience, dedication, and belief in our shared vision made this victory possible,” Balimwezo said, adding that the victory belongs to every person who believes Kampala deserves accountable leadership.

Balimwezo assumes office at a time when residents continue to demand improved service delivery, better infrastructure, cleaner drainage systems, and stronger cooperation between political and technical leaders at city hall.
