EC: Fifteen Village to have Fresh Elections

Following several petitions filed by LCI losers based on alleged voting irregularities during the election process, the Electoral Commission(EC) has decided to conduct fresh elections in 15 villages in Wakiso and Kampala Districts so far.

The commission is also still investigating over 600 village cases to determine whether tom uphold the results or order for fresh election.

The winner of Kabuuma village in Busabaala Parish, Wakiso District whose results have been nullifies by EC, Dirisa Medi Mwanje of the National Resistance Movement Party says their was no fairness in cancelling the outcome of the elections because the concerned parties were not invited to defend themselves.

Despite complain by the winners in the said 15 villages for not being given a chance to be heard, the Commission’s spokesperson Julius Mucunguzi when contacted explained that for the fifteen village it was obvious to determine, for instance in those villages the votes were absolutely more than the registered voters.

“ By cancelling the results of such fifteen villages, the commission worked within the confines of the law. Article 61 clause ‘b’ of the constitution gives us the mandate to listen to both parties for a fair hearing but at least in the said 15 villages we didn’t need to do so because the evidence was obvious,’’ Mucunguzi narrated.

The Incumbent of Kasaato Zone in Kisenyi II Parish Sande Nkoyoyo Kiwana is one of the lossers who petition EC alleging that his opponent the eventual winner smuggled noon residents into the register he which resulted into have more voters than the village members.
