South Africans are mourning after the sudden death of their Bafana Bafana World Cup star Jayden Adams 25, who passed away on Saturday in the morning hours.
According to South Africa online publication, he was found dead at a residence in Schotschekloof, Cape Town on Saturday morning. Police have opened an investigation however as of now, no official cause of death has been released yet.
The Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder just weeks ago helped Bafana Bafana reach the knockout stage of the 2026 World Cup finals for the first time ever and he played in all the three group stage matches despite losing his grandmother hours before the Czech match.
He won the 2025-26 CAF Champions League with Mamelodi Sundowns by the time of his demise he was being prized as one of South Africa’s brightest midfielders. He made his Bafana debut in 2022 and had 40 games for Sundowns after joining in 2025.
His country’s Sports Minister Gayton McKenzie said, “It is with profound shock and a heavy heart… South African football has lost one of its brightest young talents.”
The FIFA President Gianni Infantino, said, “It’s so incredibly sad… The Bafana Bafana and Mamelodi Sundowns star will be sorely missed.”
While the South Africa Football Federation revealed that, “Jayden had only recently represented South Africa at the 2026 World Cup, carrying the hopes of the nation with pride, courage and distinction.”
The whole football community is paying tribute. His death comes just weeks after that historic World Cup run.
