The Electoral Commission Chairman Justice Byabakama Mugenyi warn individuals who didn’t register for the local council elections not to bather going to the polling centers to cause common for they risk being arrested and prosecuted.
He argued the masses who registered to save time and participate in the elections and choose their leaders wisely this leadership plays a very important grass root role in enhancing democracy and development in the community.
“ The LC1 Chairperson issues affect people in the community therefore its ideal for every to participate in choosing their local leaders,’’ Justice Byabakama argued.
According to the electoral commission schedule, Women council elections are taking place today at all polling stations while LC1 chairpersons have already commence their campaigns and will end on July 27th, 2026 and polling will occur on July 28th, 2026.
Speaking to reporters at the commission’s headquarters on Sixth Street Industrial area, Byabakama said that voters in all villages are required to start assembling from 7:00am -10:00am and voting will take place at 11:00am. Candidates or their representatives with portraits will be required to stand in front and voters lining behind them.
After voting, voters are required to stay at the polling station because the elected chairman will be nominating individuals for the committee membership.
The voters will be accepting the nominees by sure of putting up their hands, however they have the right to reject the nominated member.
The positions of the committee members to be filled include; Vice Chairperson who doubles as the secretary for children’s’ affairs, secretary for security, secretary for finance and production and environment protection.
