Police: Fourteen Bodies of Capsized Boat in Kikuube-Kagadi River Still Missing

Police findings indicate that overloading led to the capsizing of the boat on River Nguse that has claimed lives of people from Bunyonyo Sub-region last late last month.

According to the report, the boat was designed to carry only 15 passengers but on the tragic day it had carry 39 persons with goods which the Deputy Police Spokesperson SSP Diana Nandaula say cause the accident.

Speaking to reporters at Naguru police headquarters, Nandaula said that at least 10 bodies have been recovered by Police with the help of UPDF and residents. While 15 people were rescued.

The tragic incident occurred on April 28, 2026 on River Nguse when a boat carrying 39 passengers from Kikuube to Kagadi districts in Bunyoro Sub-region capsized killing the majority of its occupants.

“ I can confirm that the boat was overloaded and this caused it to capsize, killing 24 occupants while 15 survived and only 10 bodies have been retrieved from waters so far,’’ SSP Nandaula explained.

She further said that two families came on site to claim their family members’ bodies, but were not among those recovered and they were told to be calm and patient as operation was still ongoing to have remaining bodies recovered.

The Police’s Deputy mouth piece also cautioned the boat owners to buy life jackets for the passengers , avoid overloading and also desist travelling at night because the visibility on waters isn’t clear at night.
