Kampala Central Division Residents Decry Contractors Delay in Garbage Collections

Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA), through ‘Weyonje’ campaign, has intensified the cleaning up activities in Kampala Central Division, this weekend together with cleaning contractors they cleaned along Dr. Seruwu Road, Katende Zone in Bukesa Parish.

  Speaking to journalists, the Director of Public Health in KCCA, Dr. Sarah Zalwango, explained the significance of the campaign. Asserting that a clean environment is everyone’s responsibility. She also urged local leaders to take on this campaign at least once every month. 

“I want to appreciate everyone who has been part of this campaign. Health is everyone’s responsibility and everyone should take full responsibility of this campaign. I implore the local leaders to talk to your residents to pay for the garbage through Nabugabo Updeal Joint Venture. These are the people who are mandated to do that” she said.

Zalwango also reminded residents to be vigilant about the deadly Ebola virus and warned them  to avoid kissing and romancing especially sex workers.

Residents have taken the opportunity to appreciate KCCA and also made some requests, for the betterment of their locations. Nakayiza Aisha, has this to say. “Am thankful to KCCA for thinking about our health. Health is very crucial to humans, because without good health, it is close to impossible to fulfill your goals as a person. So, as a person, am honestly very grateful to KCCA for this initiative” she said 

Sayid Lwanga, director BLS recruitment agency, has appreciated KCCA for making sure that the drainages are clean. He however, emphasized that the authority should think about working on the roads, because they affect them so much. “They should also work on the roads because we are disturbed by the dust which is too much. Otherwise, am very happy with KCCA for the work well done.

While giving their messages, the local leaders in Katende Zone, Bukesa Parish, thanked KCCA for the campaign and promised to comply with KCCA to make sure that their areas are clean. During today’s campaign, trees have been planted. This parish according to the local leaders complies if about 10,000 residents.

The Chairman LCI Katende Zone, Richard Semakula said that contractors take long to collect the garbage yet the areas  due to the dense population they daily generate huge amounts.
