The Minister of State for Energy and Mineral Development, Phiona Nyamutoro has implored local and foreign companies to invest in Uganda’s energy sector, saying there are many opportunities that come with availability of energy sources and market potentials.
She made the remarks, while officiating as guest of honor at the 4th Power & Elec Uganda International Expo 2026, which kicked off at the Multi-Purpose Hall of the Uganda Manufacturers Association (UMA) Show Grounds, Lugogo in Kampala on Thursday.
Running from July 9 through July 11, the three-day event focuses on scaling energy, industrialization, value addition, and clean technology adoption across the East African market.
“We invite investors who are committed to work with us. Together, let’s scale up Uganda’s economic prosperity”, she said.
Minister Nyamutoro said developing energy sources in the country is very important because; energy sources are catalysts to economic development and are in line with achieving Uganda’s tenfold economic growth.
“Energy sources create jobs, power factories, light up schools and hospitals among others”, she added.
She added that; energy development technology is not just an option but a necessity, which is why her ministry is committed to guarantee energy supply as aligned in the National Development Plan (NDP 1V).
Day one of the expo saw exhibitors in the energy sector drawn from Africa and Asia among others.
Ekissa Henry, the corporate sales manager, Kiboko Enterprise Limited, one of the exhibitors, said their company is into manufacturing and supply of Kiboko Aluzinc roofing sheets, fast moving consumer goods (FMCG), and that the company has undergone a remarkable transformation, evolving from a modest trading entity specializing in roofing sheets to a prominent import and distribution powerhouse of general merchandise.

Mr. Mostapha Sadek, the country Director, AG Energies Company Limited, said they major in solar systems for hospitals, homes and irrigation.
“We are top tier companies and we only supply to corporate bodies, companies and government entities”, he said.
He added that;AG Energies is spread across the East African Community (EAC) bloc and beyond, in Kenya, Uganda, Burundi, Rwanda and Zambia among others.
