The Ruling National Resistance (NRM) Party has announced a country wide verification of the party’s LC1, and women councils flag bearers with an aim of filling the gaps occurring.

Speaking to reporters at the party’s electoral commission offices at Kyadondo Road, Nakasero, the chairperson of the commission Dr. Tang Odoi said that he has established there are gaps which needs to be filled since 2025 after electing the flag bearers some have passed on while others have lost interest.

“ We need to carry out this exercise because some of our flag bearers have died like in my county in Tororo District three of our elected people expect to run for LC1 and Women councils have passed on, there also members who have lost interest due to person reasons while other have gotten jobs, I presume that this has also happened to many other areas in the country,’’ Dr. Tang said.

“This has informed us to carry out a country wide Barraza on July 10, 2026 aid at filling the void such that we can be able to fully participate the forthcoming LC1, LC2 and Women Councils elections,’’ he said.

Meanwhile the party according to Dr. Tang is earmarking to spend UGX 5 billion on this exercise including funding of its flag bearers.

After the verification exercise, the names of the successful candidates will be forwards to the party’s Secretary General’s office for his endorsement between 10 to 14 July 2026.

The National Electoral Commission will be nominating candidates between 15th -19th of July 2026 at their respective Sub-Counties and election for Women Councils will occur on 23rd July and LC1 on 28th July, 2026.

Tang however warned members of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) in the different areas not to assume powers of the commission at the centers because the party’s registrars are mandated to carry out the verification exercise in the respective areas.
