UIPE Launch Voice Platform

The President of Uganda Institute of Professional Engineers (UIPE) Eng. Peterson Mwesiga has argued government to and other stake holders especially real estate developers to embrace consulting of professional before they consider starting the construction of structures.

Mwesiga made the call at the launch of a public dialogue platform dubbed as “ THE UIPE VOICE at Hotel Africana on Thursday, 25, 2026. He said that most of the tragedies where buildings have collapsed leading to the loss of life have occurred majorly because the developers ignore the consultation of professionals.

He said that through this initiative, engineers and stake holders in Uganda will be able to interact freely because government and the private sector will be contacting professionals in the different engineering areas for knowledge and advice.

“ We have come up with this initiative to help us close the gap between engineers and our stake holders like government and the private sector to mitigate the challenges face our sector and to have a voice and feedback in our professional,’’ Eng. Mwesiga stated.

He also said that UIPE will be interacting with the media on a regular basis through weekly press briefing to disseminate information on what transpired in the sector at least once every month.

The Minister of State in the office of the Prime Minister (General Duties) Eng. Hilary Onek who officiated at the launch admitted that there has been a gap between the users of the Engineering service and those offering it hence the platform will help bridge such.

“ I have been in the professional for decades even when I joined politics but I have witnessed developers ignoring qualified professionals but now as government to deter tragedies from occurring we shall enact relevant laws and policies,’’ Eng. Onek assured the public.

The member of Parliament for Budyebo County, Nakasongola District Eng.  Berunado Ssebbugga Kimeze said that poor infrastructure development is always blamed on the engineering fraternity yet those who are developing such infrastructures deliberately fail to utilize the consultants on grounds that they are costly yet the projects are in bullion and when shadowy is done they lose a lot of money and sometime lives are also lost.
