The Chairman of National Resistance Movement (NRM) Party electoral commission Dr. Tanga Odoi warns members to avoid internal bickering as the party starts preparing for the Ajumani West constituency by-elections.
Speaking to reporters in a press conference at the commission’s offices in Kampala, Dr. Tanga said that updating the party’s registers have already commenced and will end on 1st Tuesday, 20-26 while voting for the flag bearer will take place on 3nd September,2026, while six members were earlier nominated to contest for the flag.
“ I want to encourage party members of Ajumani West to go for the update of our register but should show proof that they reside in that very area to avoid confusion and wrangles,’’ Dr. Tanga said.
He also said that party internal wrangles have cost them constituencies, Districts and Sub-counties in some areas such as Jinja City, warning members to avoid such.
“We are carrying out elections on 3nd September to choose the party’s flag bearer and if some member is not satisfied with the outcome of the exercise then we shall refer the matter to the Secretary General,’’ he said.
Following the death of the Third Deputy Prime Minister Gen. Moses Ali, who had represented the constituency since its inception, Ajumani West fell vacant and fresh elections will be conducted as required by law. The electoral area has a total of 114 polling stations in 99 villages and 40,984 registered voters.
Meanwhile NRM swept almost all positions in the just concluded district women chairpersons winning 575 positions out of 587 and the rest were taken by independents who are also NRM leaning according to Dr. Tanga.
